The holidays are a gorgeous time of the year in cities all over the world and the San Francisco Bay Area is no exception. How do you plan on enjoying the most wonderful time of the year? We’re sharing a few of the Bay Area holiday events that we’re most looking forward to this year.
With the cold finally coming on, we’re excited to throw on a pair of ice skates and hit the rinks! Union Square is always a fun ice rink to visit because you can feel the hustle and bustle of the city while you glide across the ice. This year San Francisco’s city hall will also be hosting an ice rink as part of their Winter Park. If you’re looking for an East Bay rink, Alameda’s Little Ice Rink is a quaint rink to spin on and is perfect for families!
This December make sure to visit the Oakland Zoo to see it sparkling with lights! The zoo gets transformed into a winter wonderland with sparkling lights hung around the park, fun light shows, and you’ll even see Santa’s workshop! It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the holidays and make sweet memories with the whole family.
If your family is Jewish, join the Jewish Community Center in San Francisco for their annual Hanukkah lighting! From December 2 through December 10, you can take part in the beautiful tradition of lighting the menorah during the darkest days of the year. On December 25th, you can also enjoy a free day at the Contemporary Jewish Museum!
This is a classic Bay Area holiday event. Walk through a dazzling display of winter lights, animated displays, and more at San Jose’s Christmas in the Park. In the heart of San Jose’s downtown, the two-acre Plaza de Cesar Chavez is transformed into a magical fair of lights, musical exhibits, and a 60-foot Giving Tree! Your kids (and even your dog!) can get a picture with Santa.
No matter how many times you see The Nutcracker Ballet, it’s beautiful every single time. Get tickets to see the incredible holiday tradition starting December 12th at War Memorial Opera House. Be sure to grab a “Passport Performance” ticket for access to a special event before the shows start that include treats, photo opps, and a passport for the kids to record their favorite memories.
