Explore the Neighborhood

4096 17th Street sits one block west of Castro Street in Corona Heights, just north of the Castro. The Muni station and the top of the commercial strip are about a minute away on foot, and the residential streets climbing toward Corona Heights Park start right behind the building.

Two long-running investments in the neighborhood are happening right now. The Castro Theatre reopened in February 2026 after a $41 million restoration. Harvey Milk Plaza, at the Castro station entrance, is being rebuilt through a $25 million city project, with groundbreaking expected in late 2026 and the new plaza opening in 2028.

Food and Everyday Errands

The Castro Theatre is showing films and hosting concerts again. Nearby are Anchor Oyster Bar, open since 1977, Orphan Andy's, the 24-hour diner at 17th and Castro, Fable and its heated garden patio, The Cove on Castro, Poesia for Italian upstairs and espresso downstairs, The Sausage Factory, Mama Ji's, Starbelly, and Aiso. For coffee there is Castro Coffee Company, Cafe de Casa (Brazilian fare), and Philz. Closer to the building, Corona Heights Market and Deli and Rossi's Deli handle groceries and sandwiches, and the Castro Farmers' Market runs Wednesday evenings on Market between Noe and Church.

Getting Around

  • Castro Station is one block away. The K, L, M, and S lines run underground to Civic Center, Powell, Montgomery, and Embarcadero
  • The F Market streetcar turns around at 17th and Castro and runs the length of Market to the Ferry Building and Fisherman's Wharf
  • Bus lines 24, 33, 35, and 37 are all within a block or two
  • Market Street and Upper Market feed directly to 101 and 280

Duboce Triangle is northeast, Mission Dolores and the Mission are east, Noe Valley is south over the hill, and Cole Valley is northwest past Corona Heights. All of them are walkable from the front door.
