Explore the Neighborhood
1696 Golden Gate sits on the corner of Divisadero, in the Western Addition. NOPA, short for North of the Panhandle, starts directly across the street, and Alamo Square is three blocks south. Divisadero is the main street for all of it, and groceries, coffee, dinner, and a drink afterward are all a few minutes from the front door.
The Divisadero Corridor
The corridor runs south from this corner for the better part of a mile, with something worth stopping for on nearly every block. Brenda's Meat & Three is the closest, mid-block between Golden Gate and McAllister, serving New Orleans style Southern cooking from breakfast through dinner. Eddie's Cafe is a block down for an old-school diner breakfast.
To the southeast, Alamo Square covers four blocks of hilltop green with city views in every direction and the Painted Ladies along its eastern edge. The park has a two-tier playground, a full tennis court, picnic tables, and a well-used dog play area on the western slope. Raymond Kimbell Playground is another option to the northeast, with a basketball court and play structures.
Farmers' Market
The Divisadero Farmers' Market runs year-round on Sundays from 9am to 1pm at 1377 Fell Street, where Divisadero meets the Panhandle. It is about half a mile south, straight down the same street.
About half a mile south, the Panhandle begins its green run west into Golden Gate Park. Just past it are the Haight Street corridor, Buena Vista Park, and Duboce Park. North up Divisadero, past Geary, the street turns residential for a while and then picks back up around California with b. patisserie and a cluster of restaurants. To the northeast are The Fillmore and the Japan Center Malls. The University of San Francisco campus is a few blocks west along Golden Gate Avenue.
Getting Around
5R Fulton Rapid and 38R Geary Rapid for a direct ride downtown
24 Divisadero stops at the corner, with the 21 Hayes and 43 Masonic within a few blocks
Deeded parking on site, with quick access to Fell and Oak for driving east or west across the city
