San Francisco waterfront property offers perks you won’t find anywhere else: stunning views, access to bike and hiking trails, challenging but satisfying surf, and wildflowers that bloom all year round. There’s a San Francisco waterfront property that caters to almost any taste, with each neighborhood offering its own flavor of “only in San Francisco.”

As top San Francisco Realtors, Danielle Lazier + Associates have an eye for what makes this city unique and how to find the property that best fits your personality and lifestyle...

The Best Neighborhoods for San Francisco Waterfront Property

San Francisco is a small city that’s made up of even smaller neighborhoods and each has its own set of qualities that caters to different lifestyles. If you’re interested in buying waterfront property or property that is located close to a beach in San Francisco, choose a neighborhood that meets your needs and gives you the type of waterfront experience you want. Below are five of our favorite neighborhoods that offer San Francisco waterfront property or convenient access to beaches and waterfront:

Outer Sunset District

The Outer Sunset District is primarily residential, with a relaxed, peaceful vibe and many options for single family homes. This neighborhood is ideal for those who want both beach and forest, as the Outer Sunset District borders both the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Gate Park. If you’re looking for sand and surf, Ocean Beach offers a wide expanse of sand that extends for miles along the west coast and has strong currents that are ideal for serious surfers.

Seacliff Neighborhood

Seacliff is an ideal neighborhood for San Francisco luxury real estate. The neighborhood is known for attracting famous residents, including Jefferson Airplane guitarist Paul Kantner, actress Sharon Stone, and actor Eugene Levy, among many others. Seacliff is also ideal for nature lovers, as it is located near the Presidio national park and China Beach Cove. This cove is a small beach that is protected by rock walls, which shelter the beach from high winds and makes it ideal for picnics. The entrance to Lands End is at the south of the cove and is a favorite spot among hikers. China Beach Cove, like the Seacliff neighborhood it borders, offers gorgeous views of the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge.

North Beach

While North Beach doesn’t offer San Francisco waterfront property per se, the neighborhood does border the festive Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 and was even home to the infamous Barbary Coast. This neighborhood is perfect for people interested in experiencing the lively hustle and bustle of classic San Francisco-tourism-meets-bohemian-lifestyle. Living in North Beach is like being in a San Francisco postcard come to life: the salty smell of the bay in the air, the sound of cable cars cruising down the hills, streets of colorful Victorian homes, and views of Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge. Also referred to as “Little Italy,” North Beach has the best Italian food and some of the best wine and cocktail bars in the city.

Marina District

The Marina District is a hip, upscale neighborhood that attracts young urban professionals and is also home to older, affluent residents. The neighborhood borders a shoreline of the San Francisco Bay, and features a picturesque park called the Marina Green. The Marina District earns it name from the municipal boat marina. Whether you are interested in yachts or sailboats, the Marina District is the ideal neighborhood for all things boat-related. The other main features of the Marina District are the Palace of Fine Arts and close proximity to the popular Crissy Fields beach and promenade. And, of course, what would a San Francisco neighborhood be without its views? Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin Headlands, and the Bay Bridge are all highlights of the views offered by the Marina District.

South Beach

Just a few years ago, South Beach was considered “up and coming” but at this point, the neighborhood has arrived. Filled with new developments and San Francisco luxury real estate, South Beach is a neighborhood of clean streets, shiny skyscrapers, luxury apartments, historic buildings, trendy shops and cafes, and a salty breeze from its close proximity to the bay. South Beach is ideal for young professionals attracted to the high rise lifestyle. There is convenient access to the freeway and the Bay Bridge as well as downtown transit. A stroll along South Beach’s waterfront provides views of the East Bay, the Bay Bridge, docks filled with boats, and the historic clock tower of the Ferry Building. Sports fans will also be enthralled with this neighborhood, as South Beach is just a short walk to AT&T Park.
