Meanwhile, the housing market has experienced some turbulence of its own. Last week's unexpectedly strong jobs report sent mortgage rates up more than a quarter-percent in a single day. Then this week, we learned that inflation dropped to 2.4% in September as housing costs continued to decelerate, an upbeat sign for prospective homebuyers.
So, mortgage rates are still very much in flux. And as we’ve reported before, our clients here in the San Francisco Bay Area are getting much lower rates than what is reported in the news. Jumbo loans, portfolio lending, bank relationships—all factor into better pricing.
What if you’re ready to make a move? For buyers, the next few weeks will move quickly. SF has a short but brisk fall selling season ahead of the holidays. For sellers, waiting until spring may (or may not) yield marginally better results, but the current market is strong.
