Want to know how strong your friendships really are?
Try house hunting together!
We recently wrote about the trend of co-buying homes in the SF Bay Area. With housing costs high and remote work more common, more people are choosing to buy property with (or near) friends, not just to save money but also for a stronger sense of community.
This can be especially beneficial for families, as it allows parents to share childcare duties and maintain those elusive adult friendships, while kids gain built-in playmates next door. Our post was partly inspired by a KQED podcast on co-parenting with friends which you can find here.
In other real estate news, among the flurry of headlines, you may have missed a relevant tax update. Starting in 2025, the federal SALT deduction cap rises to $40,000 for married couples ($20,000 if filing separately/individually) and increases slightly each year through 2029.
This means you can deduct more of your California property and income taxes, good news for homeowners here. Also, the mortgage interest deduction is now permanent. Check with your tax advisor how these changes might help you personally.
Hope you’re having a lovely summer so far! As always, please feel free to reach out with any real estate questions. We are happy and grateful to help you and anyone you send our way.
