Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema is one of my favorite neighborhood events! Celebrating independent and local filmmakers, the film festival is a fun and FREE event for everyone to enjoy. I particularly enjoy the Friday night Film Crawl where we hang out on Cortland Ave chatting with neighbors and serving up hot popcorn!
If you missed the first week of Outdoor Cinema during September 10-12, you'll still be able to catch the encore featuring the Best of Bernal, Spirit of Bernal and Audience Awards on October 27th.
The festival began in 2004 and has grown to an event which includes dozens of film screenings, meet-and-greets with filmmakers, delicious eats, music, and entertainment. It's a festival that highlights the work of local filmmakers and unites film goers from the Bernal Heights neighborhood and beyond.
Outdoor Cinema is more than just a film festival, though; the whole Bernal Heights community comes out to this event to celebrate art, film, culture, and the heritage of their neighborhood. Many local businesses are sponsors of the event, including your realtors from the SFhotlist collective.
My partner in crime, King of Bernal Heights real estate Michael Minson says, "I love being a sponsor of the Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema. Meeting the filmmakers and then seeing their work is fulfilling and exciting. We have some incredible talent in and around our little hood on a hill and it's awesome to help make the event possible."
We're looking forward to seeing what films will be chosen for the Best of Bernal, Spirit of Bernal and Audience Awards on October 27th. You can catch the screenings at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts. The films will be announced October 1st.
