Again this year, San Francisco's own Zephyr Real Estate is sponsoring holiday toy and food drives to benefit the San Francisco Firefighters’ Toy Program and the San Francisco Food Bank. Please consider donating new unwrapped toys for children up to 12 years old or non-perishable food items.
You can't miss the large barrels inside the front doors at Zephyr's Noe Valley office (4040 24th Street between Noe and Castro Streets). Don't fret if you can't make it to Noe Valley; as in previous years, all six Zephyr offices in San Francisco are participating in the food and toy collections.
Please drop off your donation by December 18, 2012 at the Castro, Noe Valley, Pacific Heights, West Portal, Upper Market or Potrero Hill office of Zephyr Real Estate.
The San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program, which started in 1949, gave away 40,000 toys to over 25,000 children last year. The San Francisco Food Bank, now in its 25th year of operation, expects to distribute food to over 225,000 people in need during the holidays. These are two very impressive organizations that tirelessly serve our communities.
Toy ideas: The biggest need is for toys/gifts for girls ages 8 through 12. Things such as sports equipment, arts and crafts supplies, card or board games.
Food ideas: Most-needed foods are tuna/canned meats, cereal, peanut butter, beans, rice, pasta, soups/stews, 100 percent fruit juices, and canned fruits and vegetables. Cans with pop-tops are great if you can find them since a can opener isn't required to open them.
