North Beach is a lively neighborhood with a strong Italian heritage and Beat Generation history. It is located in the very northeast part of San Francisco, yet despite its name, does not border the waterfront. North Beach, a neighborhood in northeast San Francisco with a buzzy energy, is one of the oldest, most established areas in the city. Steeped in Italian heritage, the neighborhood has a prominent Italian-American population, which grew largely after the 1906 earthquake and is the reason why the area is widely known as “Little Italy”. North Beach is also known as being the historic center of the Beat Generation and is home to many popular cultural landmarks including Saints Peter and Paul Church. There is a lively nightlife scene in North Beach, as well as numerous trendy eateries, coffee shops, and bars.
