Historic Clocktower Building
History
- Originally built as a warehouse in 1907, it later served as headquarters for Max Schmidt Lithograph Company
- Schmidt Company was one of America’s great “label houses,” the largest on the west coast at the time
- When the Bay Bridge Aqueduct was built, city officials were persuaded against demolishing the clocktower by Mr. Schmidt himself
