5 Ways to Declutter and Stage Homes for Sale in San Francisco

January 19, 2018

There’s a growing tendency for minimalism and having less things clutter our spaces. These ideals have become an inspiration for homeowners all over the world, since they promote a sense of harmony and organization. We see this trend towards minimalism when staging homes for sale in San Francisco.

There are certain objects that we keep because we hold an attachment to them — perhaps they were given to us by a friend or maybe they hold good memories for us. However, there are also things that we just keep stored with no valid purpose. These are the things that clutter our homes and even create a sense of dysfunction.

If you’re interested in organizing your home, the five philosophies below can help!

Feng Shui

The principal objective of this Eastern philosophy is to achieve a harmony and balance between you and your environment. The practice of Feng Shui attracts a sense of prosperity and well-being to your space and life in general. You can add some touches of this philosophy everywhere around your house with small steps. Just changing the color of the walls, and the decor or furniture of your rooms, is believed to promote health, wealth, happiness, and an overall good energy that will benefit every aspect of your life.

The KonMari Method

For Marie Kondo, a famous Japanese organizer, you don’t need to make radical changes in your space in order to improve your life. According to her, just by tidying up your spaces you will perceive a drastic change in your routine. For her, this approach consists on two steps you must make, and they are explained in her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering. The first step is to take all your belongings and categorize them from clothes to sentimental pieces. The second step is deciding whether or not each particular object brings you joy. If it doesn’t, you just have to let it go.

The 90/90 Rule (Minimalism)

This is an organization concept that consists of two steps as well. In this case each object you own must be assessed with two questions: Have I used it within the last 90 days, and will I use it in the next 90 days? If the answer is no, then you will dispose of your belonging. The purpose of this philosophy is to simplify your life by realizing the importance of ridding yourself of things you no longer use and making space for new experiences.

Maximize Efficiency

This philosophy imparts the principle that the more space you have, the more likely it is that you’re wasting some of it. In order to adapt your life to this method, you must go through every room in your house and select the objects that are really essential. By doing this, you will be able to determine how you can maximize the efficiency of your home, spending less time and energy on the maintenance of things that don’t really contribute to your life. The result? You will have more time and freedom to enjoy doing the things that matter.

Emphasize Personality

Community is the core philosophy behind the “Tiny House Movement” method. These communities are actively committed to supporting the work of local artisans and craftsmen. They believe that each of the pieces created by these local workers have a strong personality that will give their homes the special touch they were missing, plus it’s a cost efficient way of organizing their spaces. This method is popular because you choose one special object that means something to you and then you personalize your decor to fit. It makes more than just a nice house, it builds a cozy home.

These are some of the most popular philosophies and methods for home organization. Follow the one that you like the most and will make your spaces more adequate to enhance your life. If you are looking at homes for sale in San Francisco, imagine how you would apply these philosophies to these spaces. The important takeaway is that in order to declutter your house and become a happy homeowner, you must realize the objects that are really important to you, that give your life some joy, and then let go of the things that don’t.
