As part of our “Meet the Team Series,” we’re proud to introduce Lucas Sorah, one of our buyer specialists at Danielle Lazier :: SFhotlist Team. He’s busy helping buyers all across San Francisco, connecting them with their perfect homes.
Let’s find out more about Lucas Sorah and his role as a buyer specialist at Keller Williams San Francisco and the Danielle Lazier :: SFhotlist Team.
Lucas Sorah started his real estate career at quite the young age. He was born and raised in a Southern California real estate family and has fond memories of going to open houses when he was just five years old. He knew right away that he would have a career in real estate and has since worked in most sectors of the real estate industry, including property management and leasing.
When Lucas moved to San Francisco he wanted to work for a real estate team that was "well-connected and pretty much killing it". A mutual friend of course recommended Danielle Lazier and SFhotlist. They met for coffee, got to know each other, and the rest is history
When it comes to working with buyers, Lucas recommends trusting your intuition. "Something that helps me do really well in this industry is that I am very intuitive and I can understand buyers and communicate very clearly so we can find the best home for them possible."
Lucas has a very strong passion for the part he plays in the San Francisco Bay Area real estate industry, and it shows in how he interacts with his clients and the results he is able to produce. Real estate is his full time job, but Lucas also has two degrees, in sociology and communications. Having those two degrees combined with his experience in real estate really helps him work as partner with his clients.
When clients work with Lucas they can expect someone who has their best interests at heart. Lucas prides himself on being open and transparent -- whether it’s something clients want to hear or not. He will be their number one cheerleader through the process. They can expect Lucas to respond to them quickly, whenever they have concerns, and that he will keep them in the loop throughout the entire process.
Lucas loves to give back to the San Francisco community and believes that charity work is a great way to be a contributing member of society. He adopted his dog, Sophie, from the SPCA. Animal shelters and refuges are near and dear to his heart. Every year, he attends the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Gala. If his schedule allows, he also volunteers. He donates to the Larkin Street Youth Foundation because he thinks that as an LGBT, it’s important that LGBT youth have the resources and support they need to live better lives. "People have turned their backs on these kids just because they are LGBT," says Lucas, "And I want them to know that someone cares."
When not involved with charity work or real estate, Lucas can be found enjoying his local Mission Dolores neighborhood. Lucas is a big fan of the Mission Dolores location. He explains, "It’s so central to everything -- shopping, bars, and cultural events. The charm, the character. It’s a very elegant neighborhood. It’s classic San Francisco -- the palm trees, the parks. It’s a gorgeous neighborhood and by far one of my favorites in the city."
Lucas has some great tips for real estate agents. He suggests the following: "Right off the bat, it’s really important to be a good listener. You also need to understand that you need to advise them and set client expectations according to current conditions. This avoids wasting time chasing properties that really won’t work budget or lifestyle wise. Ask a lot of questions, but ask targeted questions. It all comes down to educating the client, and it’s our job to do that."
He also recommends using social media to leverage your online presence as a real estate agent. "I’m big on Facebook, and our team is on Yelp. I also subscribe to real estate blogs and share those."
Yet Lucas stresses that it's important to network in person, too, and not just rely on digital marketing alone. "I’m really social, so I love networking," explains Lucas. "I know a lot of people. I go to lender networking events, so I know the latest news and the best lenders. When it’s time to buy a property, that’s an advantage because lenders know me and they like working with me."
Lucas says, "As a newbie, the most important thing you can do is connect and affiliate yourself with a seasoned agent who is willing to show you the ropes. Breaking into the San Francisco real estate market is really tough, so you need to team up with a top producing agent who needs help. You have to start somewhere, so be humble. And learn as much as you can."
He also stresses that achieving happiness is the most important thing in both your personal and professional life. "Happiness shines through in individuals who truly love what they do and it’s a characteristic people are drawn to."
