Decorating Your Home: Eye-Catching Details That Everyone Will Notice

October 8, 2015

This guest post was written by Marie Nieves.

When decorating your home, you should unleash your inner artist, because there is artistic potential hidden in every corner. Adding flourishes and enhancing details will make your home look more appealing. It is far more affordable than major renovation. These eye-catching items will not only make the space more inviting, but add to its value. Let’s see how you can get the most out of your home.

The Walls Are Your Canvas

The walls shouldn’t be as white and empty as the bed sheets. Depending on your preferences, you can enhance them in different ways. The living room would look great if, for instance, on the wall behind your couch, you put family photos. Have a concept; make all the pictures black and white or all the frames the same. You can also put just photos of smiles, etc. Your bedroom wall would reflect a whole different feel if you had a mural on it. If you wanted to tone it down a bit, you could use just one piece of art. Even that small detail, if well framed and placed, can make a huge impact.

Decorating Your Home with a Theme

Having one theme that will appear in small details throughout the whole house will make the space feel more connected. It’s not that hard to come up with an idea. If you are, for instance, a San Francisco lover, paint a Golden Gate mural, use pillows with crabs on them, get souvenirs from the beach, and more. Love history? Choose steampunk, and use a lot of metal in your furniture and decorations. Vintage looks are great and affordable, because you can use refurbished items.

Let There Be Light

It’s important to realize that lighting is the first thing that someone will notice in the house. So, no matter if you just want to make the space more appealing for your guests or you are trying to sell, you have to keep this in mind. It is the first thing you would notice in a house you want to buy. Lighting should match the function of the area (bedroom – romantic and mild, living room – dramatic and innovative, bathroom – more light sources, and so on.).

Details for Success

Some details are bound to succeed, no matter who is the judge, and are an easy way to decorate your home. Woodwork can always add some warmth and elegance to the space. Dramatic and conspicuous curtains can accentuate the windows as a focal point of the room. Sculpted details can make the space look expensive (and you can even buy them at a flea market). Vaulted ceilings can contribute to the more spacious look of a room, and some details such as aquarium, skylights or interesting bookshelves will be the stars of your home.

Outside Matters, Too

People don’t simply teleport into your hallway, first they have to go in from the outside. That’s why you shouldn’t forget this area either. What’s in front of your house and what’s inside, together make a complete impression. Make the entrance more welcoming with grass pavers and outdoor lighting. Don’t neglect your front door. It should always have a nice, fresh coat of paint.

Remember that beauty is in the details and using them to the maximum will make your home more inviting.
